Robert Russa Moton Museum

WINNER of the Southeast Association of Museums Exhibition Competition, the Preservation of Virginia Award in Education, and the American Association for State and Local History Award of Merit.

The Moton School Story—Children of Courage is located in Farmville, Virginia in the restored Robert Russa Moton High School building, a National Historic Landmark.  The exhibits follow the 1951 student-led strike at R. R. Moton High School and the resulting Brown v. Board decisions, through Prince Edward County’s five-year public school closing, the opening of Kennedy Administration-backed Free Schools, and the Supreme Court’s 1964 Griffin decision ensuring free public education for all American children.
