WAYFINDING SIGNAGE

The Chrysler Museum of Art undertook a comprehensive renovation to improve visitor flow and orientation throughout its campus. As part of this effort, an integrated interior and exterior wayfinding program was developed to guide visitors from arrival through the museum’s galleries and public spaces. Designed to support both first-time and returning visitors, the system enhances clarity and ease of navigation while maintaining the calm, contemplative atmosphere essential to the art-viewing experience.

Project completed at a previous firm.

The wayfinding program was conceived as a cohesive family of interior and exterior signs that integrate seamlessly with the museum’s architecture and visual identity. A modular system allows information to be updated and reconfigured as exhibitions and programs evolve, while consistent graphic cues and color differentiation clarify destinations and visitor services at a glance. Sign locations were carefully coordinated across indoor and outdoor environments to provide guidance at key decision points without competing with the art, resulting in a refined, flexible system that strengthens orientation and supports the overall visitor experience.
